Magic Jack generally works well but, just like Skype on a phone through my computer, I found that people had problems hearing me. I often sounded garbled.

I found a solution. On a hunch, I bought an external, USB-based wi-fi receiver, bypassing the internal wi-fi on my new HP laptop. Huge difference. The call quality is now great. Probably because my computer is not using internal resources for wi-fi anymore. In fact, most people cannot tell that I am on a VoIP phone. Now, if only Magic Jack could eliminate the annoying random beep tone generation problem that many users are talking about.

By the way, another benefit is that my w-fi connection on Comcast high speed Internet is now much, much faster.
